Gynecologist Cancer Screening

Gynecologist Cancer Screening

A pap smear can detect cervical and uterine cancers. It is recommended to begin testing every three years starting at age 21. A pelvic exam examines the vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and rectum.

Colposcopy: We use a colposcope (lighted, magnifying instrument) to examine the vulva, vagina and cervix for signs of cancer or abnormal tissue. Endoscopy: For some types of gynecologic cancer, we examine inside the pelvic organs using various types of scopes.
